MAGNETOMETER
A magnetometer is used to measure magnetic field strength. Under the sea it is commonly used to detect variations in the total magnetic field in nT of the underlying seafloor. Usually when doing magnetometer surveys the increased magnetization is caused by the presence of ferrous (unoxidized) iron on the seafloor, whether from a shipwrecked boat made of steel or a volcanic rock containing grains of magnetite, a highly magnetic mineral. The frequency of the magnetometers electrical oscillator is known as the Larmor frequency. This oscillation varies with the external ambient magnetic field, we measure those variations and send them to the computer for display and recording
The uses of magnetometer survey
Magnetometer surveys are used in a variety of fields, and are particularly well suited to the detection and mapping of all sizes of ferrous objects including anchors, chains, cables, pipelines, ballast and other scattered shipwreck debris, munitions (UXO), aircraft, engines and any other magnetic objects. These surveys are commonly carried out before marine construction projects to ensure that there are no obstacles or objects that could be in the way of construction.
Applications of MAGNETOMETER SURVEY
UXO detection
Ferrous objects detection
Buried object location
Dredging surveys
OUR MAGNETOMETER CAPABILITIES
We have invested in the industry-leading Geometrics G-882 Cesium-Vapour Marine magnetometer, c/w altimeter, to ensure we produce reliable, high quality results when undertaking magnetometer surveys. We have extensive experience of using magnetometer systems as part of a UXO detection surveys, We also carry out both multibeam bathymetry and side-scan sonar systems to ensure the best accuracy and coverage for our clients.
G-882
The worlds industry leading Marine Magnetometer
MagLogLite™ Data Logging software allows recording and display of data and position with automatic anomaly detection. During the surveys we are able to precisely monitor real time changes and locate certain targets that we find interesting.
